DEPARTMENT OF PATHOLOGY
Pathology is a dynamic and rapidly evolving field of Medicine that has a primary role in diagnosis, research and monitoring of treatment of virtually all diseases. Pathology is the specialty that translates the accumulated discoveries from all aspects of basic science into diagnostic endpoints (conclusions). Moreover, Pathology identifies targets that differentiate disease responses, translating these targets into useful practices and thus providing guidance to clinical groups, so that treatments become personalised and optimised based on evidence.
The Department of Pathology at the “Olympion” General Clinic of Patras employs experienced well-trained pathologists and Lab technicians that exemplify the field’s complex nature with the use of standard histopathology in combination with the application of a broad array of laboratory tests and “cutting-edge” technology that ensure accurate and fast diagnosis. In addition, the Department provides a wide spectrum of immunohistochemical analyses on tissue samples for diagnostic and prognostic purposes. Moreover, molecular biology Laboratories that cover the molecular aspects of the modern diagnostic pathology.

The Department covers virtually every area of Diagnostic Surgical Pathology, including:
- Upper and lower GI tract pathology
- Liver and Pancreas
- Gynaecologic pathology
- Bone and Soft Tissue pathology
- Pulmonary pathology
- Head and Neck pathology
- Skin and Adnexae pathology
- Urologic pathology
- Neuropathology (oncologic neuropathology)
