Vascular Surgery Department
An important part of the OLYMPION Hospital surgical field is the Vascular Surgery Department, which comes to add to the clinic's high-level healthcare services.
The Olympion Hospital has developed a modern and organized Vascular Surgery Center for the diagnosis and treatment of vascular conditions. All kinds of vascular operations of small or average severity are carried out, such as varicose vein surgery but also large operations, such as abdominal aorta aneurysms, carotids endarterectomy and arteries by-pass on the extremities, as a result of arterial obstructive disease.
More specifically, the Department of Vascular Surgery offers:
- Conservative treatment for all vascular conditions, arterial and venous, as well as lymphangiopathy.
- Surgical treatment
- arterial conditions
- Abdominal aortic aneurysm
- Aneurysm of iliac and popliteal arteries.
- Peripheral femoral-popliteal by-pass or femoral-tibial by-pass.
- Emergency situations such as acute arterial embolism of upper and lower extremities.Treatment with thrombolysis or embolectomy with fogarty catheter.
- Diabetic foot with vascular control and conservative or surgical treatment.
- Venous conditions
- Varicose leg with minimal invasive methods including sclerotherapy of local grubbing under local anesthesia and by laser methods.
- arterial conditions
- Vascular access to renal patients
- Vascular access to renal patients is offered, by creating arteriovenous communication (fistula), with vein or graft.
The vascular surgery department is also actively involved with renal patients due to the large Hemodialysis Unit, available at the Olympion Hospital.
Some of the above mentioned operations are treated with "one day" hospitalization (One Day Clinic). - The entire reported project is supported by well-equipped diagnostic departments (Microbiological, Radiological, Endoscopic) within the same facility. The option of complete vascular investigation is offered, with Doppler or Triplex and also Angiography after the acquisition of the latest generation CT scanner (Siemens Somatom Definition).
- Surgery is facilitated with state-of-the-art equipment and experienced nursing personnel, while the well-organized Anesthesiology Department applies the most up-to-date and minimally aggravating anesthesia-analgesic methods for the patient.
- Postoperatively, the possibility of supporting the surgical patients in the fully equipped and organized ICU is provided, if necessary.
- Vascular access to renal patients is offered, by creating arteriovenous communication (fistula), with vein or graft.
Vascular Surgery consultations can be scheduled on week days, at the Olympion Hospital Out-patient Department.
